BOYNEXTDOOR has returned with their fifth mini-album, The Action, showcasing the group’s growth and determination to push creative boundaries. A media showcase was held on October 20 at KBS Arena in Seoul, where the group performed their new title track, Hollywood Action, for the first time.
The album contains five tracks—Hollywood Action, Live In Paris, JAM!, Bathroom, and Issjanna—that together form a narrative of youth, capturing moments of love, friendship, fear, and personal choice. Early tracks explore musical camaraderie with friends, mid-album songs reflect romantic entanglements and inner conflicts, and the finale depicts heartbreak and growth.
Hollywood Action stands out with its swinging rhythm, vibrant brass sections, and catchy hooks, reflecting BOYNEXTDOOR’s signature energetic and confident style. Produced by KOZ Entertainment’s Zico alongside Poptime and Kako, the track merges smooth vocals, rap, and cinematic flair, creating a dynamic audio-visual experience reminiscent of a high-energy action film. Members emphasized that the song embodies their own courage and drive, encouraging listeners to act boldly in life.
The group’s involvement in songwriting and production underscores their artistic growth. Members Myung Jaehyun, Taesan, Woonhak, and first-time contributor Ihan added their creative input, further personalizing the album. Anecdotes from the studio reveal a hands-on approach, from improvising tracks in hotel rooms to layering instruments for the perfect outro, highlighting the meticulous effort behind the release.
BOYNEXTDOOR’s choreography complements the album’s cinematic theme, with synchronized, high-impact performances evoking the intensity of action films. Music video scenes recreate a Hollywood set, with the members playfully acting as stars navigating a youthful action narrative.
The group continues to build on their rapid ascent. Previous releases 19.99 and No Genre achieved consecutive million-seller status, and all four of their mini-albums have charted on the US Billboard 200. Their first solo tour, KNOCK ON Vol.1, spanned 13 cities with 23 performances and included a spot at Lollapalooza Chicago, reflecting their expanding global presence.
